Why We Chose to Offer Custom Manufactured Clothing

“We know that off-the-shelf UK stock items don’t always meet our clients’ needs, and sometimes a completely bespoke solution is required. For many, the process of creating something from scratch and finding a factory can feel daunting, especially if you’re not from the industry.

While the Far East is often the default thought, we wanted an EU-based alternative that avoids import duties. Portugal, at the heart of the EU textile market and renowned for its quality, was the perfect choice, supplying some of the world’s most popular brands.

We take your requirements in manageable quantities, starting from 250 items, and create the garments, branding, and packaging entirely from scratch within 8–10 weeks. Every item is produced to the highest quality and sustainable standards, giving our clients a premium, fully bespoke product without the usual complexity of international manufacturing.” - Alex Grace, CEO

FAQs

Why choose custom clothing manufacture?

Choosing bespoke manufacture allows you to move beyond "off-the-shelf" garments and create something truly unique to your brand. It gives you total control over the fabric (weight, composition, and feel), the fit (custom silhouettes and sizing), and the finishing touches (custom labels, buttons, and Pantone-matched colours). By manufacturing in Portugal, you also benefit from world-renowned craftsmanship, ethical production standards, and shorter lead times compared to other sourcing options.

What sizes are available with bespoke manufacture from Banana Moon?

Because this is a fully bespoke "cut-and-sew" service, we aren't limited to standard stock sizes. We can grade your garments to any size run you require, from children's and petite to plus-size and tall fits. As part of our process, we develop a "size-set" for your approval, ensuring the fit is consistent and perfect across every single item in your order. This can be taken from an industry-standard size spec or your own size spec, if you prefer.

Can you make a full bespoke uniform for my business, team, or startup?

We can manufacture entire ranges, including t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts, and even more technical items like bodywarmers. Whether you are a startup launching a new clothing line or a corporate business looking for a high-end, cohesive uniform that reflects your premium brand, our end-to-end service, from technical packs and prototyping to bulk production and logistics, is designed to bring your vision to life. (Note: Our bespoke service typically starts at a minimum order quantity of 250 items per style.)

Can you replicate an existing garment?

If you want to draw inspiration from an existing garment, that can absolutely be achieved. Send a sample or detailed spec. We’ll reverse-engineer the pattern and fabric, then prototype.

Can you handle barcoding?

We’re happy to apply carton labels, inner poly bag barcodes, and size stickers as needed.

Do you offer sustainable certifications?

As a B-Corp, sustainability is core to our ethos. On request we source GOTS/GRS/OEKO-TEX materials and can supply documentation with your order. You can visit our sustainability page to learn more about our efforts to be eco-friendly in our practices.

What affects the price of custom clothing the most?

There are a number of key factors that influence the piercing of your custom clothes, including:

  • Fabric (yarn, weight, composition)
  • Make complexity
  • Trims/embellishment
  • Order volume.

Can you store fabric or manage repeats?

We can plan for repeat buys and, in some cases, reserve greige or dyed fabric to stabilise colour and lead time.
