How we captured the essence of Yorkshire on a T-shirt

At the end of last year, we teamed up with Yorkshire art organisation art& to ask the children of Yorkshire to draw what the county meant to them.

We asked kids aged 9-11 to show us their artistic flair, and we weren’t disappointed.

We received so many fantastic entries from kids all over Yorkshire and it was tough, but we finally crowned four winners and printed them their own run of Yorkshire tees.

With so many Yorkshire-and-proud pieces to choose from, art& and ourselves at Banana Moon spent days deliberating on our winning pieces, before crowning Eloise, Joe, Finlo and Marnie as our winners.

  • Joe’s drawing featured a collection of Yorkshire staples, with the main focus being a lovely, big Yorkshire pudding with plenty of gravy. Yum!

  • Eloise’s piece was a beautiful hand drawn depiction of a Yorkshire landscape, framed inside a lovely white Yorkshire rose.

  • Finlo and Marnie’s collaborative piece was created at the Children’s Art School, which is a charitable organisation that works with young people in Yorkshire to promote art education.  Their painting featured a train travelling along the Penistone Line.

We were so pleased to award our winners with ten t shirts each featuring their designs.

The Big Draw was an amazing opportunity for us to see the creativity that the children of Yorkshire possess.

We hope that our winners will continue to harness their creative flair, and we’re excited to see some of our Yorkshire t shirts out and about!
